I try not to talk about the weather unless it has a really significant impact on me, but today is one of those days. Snow Day! Yay! I haven't had one of these in forever, as when I was in Boston, I usually felt the need to dig out and go in. Although there was that one time when HB and I spent the day at home and a large part of the day trying to shovel our way out. Looking back on that post and the photos is kind of funny in a "I can't believe we had to do that" sort of way.
The bummer about this one is that even though we have a snowblower/thrower, it is too massive for me to operate. And wouldn't you know it but HB is stuck in sunny, warm Dallas. There aren't any flights back here today as they already cancelled them all. But before you feel too envious of him in his warm locale, he is sick again. He was getting over the cough/throat/lose your voice thing that has been going around and now it is back with a vengeance. Poor guy. It is no fun to be sick in a hotel - although at least someone changes your sheets for you.
Anyway, back to my snow day. I was feeling slightly guilty about staying home, since the university isn't officially closed. But as I listen to the forecast of the blizzard-like conditions and terrible predictions for the commute home and the fact that people HB works with are stuck at home too, I'm feeling less and less guilty. Now I just have to decide what to do with the rest of my day. Chores around the house? Reading papers for school? Reading a book for pleasure? Taking photos? Maybe a little bit of all four. After all, if I have to stay home tomorrow too and go in on Saturday, it would be nice to make today a bit like a weekend day.
Too bad we don't have a good hill within walking distance to go sledding. ;-)

I mentioned some time ago that once the baby announcements went out for Baby Texas Bunny I would post the photo here.
Well, the one sent to me took quite a bit longer to get here, and then I got involved in posting the flower and fuzzy friend photos. But here it is!
The lighting may look a little strange on a computer monitor, depending on what kind of screen you have, but printed out, it looks really nice. A bit unusual, but that is what makes it special.
Happy Friday, everyone. :-)
By the way, today is Texas Seestor's birthday! Happy Birthday, Seeeeeeeeeestor.

I realized this morning that some of the most interesting stuff in my life lately has been the movies and TV shows that I've watched.
We finally watched The Devil Wears Prada. I had my doubts that I would like it, because I thought it was going to be about the fashion industry - and face it - I'm just not into fashion. However, it turned out to be more about working relationships, demanding bosses, adjusting to a new career/job, worrying about your dreams, and how work can affect your personal relationships. It was all very interesting and funny.
The other things of note are that I've been watching the Grease - You're the One that I Want show. Have you? I know many of you like music, and it is very good. They are picking the 2 leads to star in the Broadway production of Grease. The show originally airs on Sundays, but get re-broadcast during the week on Bravo. And it is well worth watching. There are a lot of really talented people on that show.
Finally, we started watching season 1 of 24. I bought it for HB for Christmas and it has taken us this long to be 'in the mood' to watch it. But now that we are watching it, I'm completely hooked! We watched 5 episodes on Friday and about 4 on Saturday and one last night. So, we are progressing through the 24 hours pretty well. It definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat, but is also a show that you must watch from the beginning. I don't think it would make much sense if you tried to begin watching it in the middle of the season.
So, there is my excitement of late. Feel free to share any movies you've watched lately or TV shows you've become addicted to in the comments. :-)

Mom has been going through the many boxes stored in the basement of our house. She has been working hard at sorting the many things we've accumulated over the years. Some of those are our childhood toys that we could never bear to give away.
They shipped me a box that arrived yesterday and it was Such Fun going through it and looking at the first round of toys. I must qualify that statement too by saying that I'd had a really discouraging day that was kind of long too, and I was pretty pooped when I got home. But this perked me right up!
Here are some of them:
Do you recognize them all? Probably all but the blue dog and the bunny. I labeled them all on Flickr, so click on the photo and scroll over each one to see who they are.
Did you have any of them? Who didn't have a Garfield something or other? I had a Garfield bedspread even. I'd kind of forgotten about Odie though. Poor Odie, always getting forgotten.
Anyway, I have some ideas for future posts that incorporate the other toys so be on the lookout for those. :-)
Take care and have a good weekend. Hugs to you!

These are the flowers that I fell in love with at Home Dee-pot the other weekend and they have just been a joy to have around.
I like how they look very ruffly in this next photo.
I of course, had to do my share of close-ups, because I just loved the star shape in the center.
and in large - be sure to check this one out! Especially take note of the pollen in the center.
This next one is just a slightly different angle, but I really like it too and couldn't decide between this and the one before. So, you get to see both!
and in large
This is what my little camera studio looked like.
Yes, they are sitting on top of a tissue box. And note how the Girlie is close by. She was actually sniffing around the tripod at one point. But even though I had my camera detached from the tripod at the time, I had my macro lens on the camera at the time and wouldn't have been able to get a good shot of her.
Well, I hope you enjoy these photos. I know I enjoyed taking them and looking at them. :-D

Hi there,
Yes, I know, I know. It is Monday and I never posted pictures of flowers. I apologize to anyone (Squirl) who has been coming by faithfully to look at them and each time being disappointed. I hate disappointing people. But even more than that, I hate being cold.
You see, this weekend was soooooo freakin' cold that the zero temperature post I put up the other day looked like nothing. Since the heat in our house just couldn't keep up with the cold, the most I wanted to do was cower under a blanket on the couch in an attempt to stay warm.
I'm not sure when I'm going to post the flower pictures. It might be Friday after all.
Did anyone do anything fun this weekend? or even not so fun?

Normally, today would be Flowers for Friday... but I didn't get photos uploaded to Flickr last night and won't have time until tomorrow. So. I will be posting tomorrow and you can either think of it as Belated Flowers for Friday or Super Shot Saturday. It seems presumptuous to call my photos 'super' but I think that this batch turned out pretty well, so then again, maybe not.
Sorry for the delay. But hopefully it will be worth the wait.
:-)
Happy Friday! Boy do I love Fridays. I love the prospect of the whole weekend ahead of us. And to top it off, HB and I have a good, fun activity planned for Saturday night. Supper at a British restaurant that has awesome fish and chips and a chance to poke around a space at his work that he designed to deal with crises (can't say more, sorry). It should be very cool, in a technological sort of way.
